Chambers undertakes major review of school admissions policy for the DCSF
Instructed by the Office of the Schools Adjudicator under the auspices of the Department of Children Schools and Families, nine members of Chambers undertook a review of the admissions policies currently in place for both secondary and primary schools in England. Each school in England has an admissions policy and the Department has issued guidance to standardise and ensure fairness across the country. Recent legislation and regulations needed to be incorporated by the schools to ensure every child has a fair and realistic chance of being given a school place that is appropriate to their needs. Successful, popular schools have notoriously inflated local housing prices. Keen to ensure that fairness prevails the exercise was completed to present the Schools Adjudicator, responsible for admissions, with an assessment of which schools are not currently complying with the letter of the law.
The members of Chambers involved with this exercise now have an expert working knowledge of schools admissions and can advise both schools and parents, particularly those unhappy that their child has not been offered the school place of their choice.
